Exercise therapy & Fitness Programs

    What is exercise therapy?

  • General Orthopaedic & Sports physiotherapy fits the public perception of physiotherapy but it is only one of the many areas of physiotherapy. Each one of our Toronto physiotherapists is trained and experienced in a specialty area of physiotherapy. Typically an Orthopaedic & Sports physiotherapist deals with treatment and rehabilitation of injuries to muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bones such as fractures, sprains, strains, ruptures and overuse syndrome as well as conditions. Whether you are an elite athlete, a weekend warrior, or require rehabilitation following an accident, fracture or surgery, our highly skilled health care team including physiotherapists and exercise therapists have the in-depth knowledge and specialized hands-on skills to assess, diagnose and treat your symptoms to assist you in reaching your highest level of function, and regaining your independence.
  • What are Muscle Strains, Sprains and Imbalances?

  • Muscle strains are caused due overstretching of the muscles which may cause them to tear. This occurs because of improper use, overuse or fatigue of the muscle. It can happen in any muscle of the body but are common in the neck, lower back, shoulder, and hamstring. Sprains happen when a tendon or a ligament is stretched beyond their normal elasticity. Ligamentum and tendon sprains can affect joint stability and cause pain and further injuries.

Dizziness & Balance Program and Vertigo

What are the common causes of dizziness?

  • Inner ear disorders are the cause of 80-85% of dizziness complaints. Inner ear disorders can be caused by whiplash, blows to the head, viral infections, high doses of certain antibiotics, strokes or degeneration of the inner ear’s balance function, also known as the vestibular system, which often deteriorates with age. Vestibular neuritis (typically viral infection of the vestibular nerve) & Meniere’s disease are also common causes of dizziness.

These programs are exercise sessions focused on head/body movement as well as balance retraining. The sessions are provided in the clinic or virtually and include guidance for home exercise program, education for the caregivers and help our clients to be more mobile & gradually return to daily activities without fear of falling. This program has been proven to improve our clients’ confidence level and minimize their anxiety & fear significantly which ultimately prevents falls and fractures.

Pelvic Health for Women & Men

    What is it?

  • Pelvic health physiotherapy is ideal for women and men who suffer from pelvic floor muscle dysfunction. Expecting & new mothers, women & men suffering from pelvic pain, or patients who are recovering from pelvic operations are among patients who will benefit from pelvic physiotherapy.
  • How is it treated?

  • Pelvic health physiotherapist is a registered orthopaedic physiotherapist with additional training in treating pelvic conditions in women, men and children. A pelvic health physiotherapist combines hands-on techniques to mobilize, release tension and relax muscles in the area in hand with exercises and education on managing symptoms. During & after pregnancy or after operations, treatment is vital as pelvic floor muscles stabilize the pelvis, sacrum and hip joints and play an important role in urination, bowel movements, and sexual function. With proper treatment, these muscles can perform better and prevent injuries.
  • Why Should I treat it?

  • Preventative: You can take a proactive approach to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles to prevent prolapse and/or urinary incontinence. We can also provide education on proper posture and techniques to prevent an injury or discomfort during pregnancy as well as tips for better sleep.
  • Physical Exercise: We can show you safe exercises, breathing techniques and postures for pregnant women.
  • Pain: We can provide treatment for lower back, hip, and pelvic pain during pregnancy.
  • Preparation for Labor: We provide instruction for the birthing position that is best for you in hand with breathing and pelvic floor relaxation tips. We can also assist with perineum stretching to prepare for birth.

Chiropody & Footcare

    What is footcare??

  • Footcare is the treatment of common foot conditions such as Plantar Fasciitis, Achilles Tendonitis, calluses, warts, ingrown toe nails, and diabetic foot. The practice of Chiropody is the assessment of the foot and legs including the biomechanical relationship between the lower legs and spine. Chiropody treatment may include prescribing medication, surgical methods, hands on treatments and the use of modalities such as Shock Wave Therapy (SWT) and Ultrasound.
  • What is chiropody?

  • Chiropodists commonly treat foot and ankle pain conditions caused by biomechanical misalignment and repetitive strains or injuries. In addition to requiring an assessment for the need of corrective appliances such as Orthotics, patients visit chiropodists for conditions such as Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis. A Chiropodist uses hands-on treatment and exercise to treat these conditions.
  • At Physiomobility clinic, we put your health in the hands of professionals, each with proper training and experience in their field. When it comes to your foot health, this is no exception. Whether it is a sore callus, an ingrown toenail or a more complicated foot biomechanical condition, we have the right professional for you.

What conditions are treated by a chiropodist?

  1. Foot Overpronation (Flat feet) usually managed by prescription of custom made orthotics or footwear
  2. Plantar Fasciitis usually treated with a combination of hands-on treatments, Shock Wave Therapy (SWT) and orthotic fitting if needed
  3. Morton’s Neuroma
  4. Hammer Toe
  5. Achilles Tendonitis
  6. Bunions
  7. Sports-related foot and ankle injuries
  8. An ingrown toenail usually requires surgical treatment
